Stamford Hospital is a 305 bed not-for-profit teaching acute care hospital offering services in medicine, obstetrics &amp; gynecology, general and specialized surgery; including open heart surgery. Stamford Hospital is scheduled to open a new $450 million hospital in 2016. The Hospital is a member of the New York Presbyterian Health Care System, and an affiliate of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Stamford Hospital also includes the Tully Health Center, a 230,000 sq. ft. outpatient facility which houses an immediate care center, physician offices, a same-day surgery center, endoscopy center, The Center for Integrative Wellness, broad imaging capabilities which includes a designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, physical therapy, fitness programs, cardiac rehabilitation and nutrition services. The department is equipped with the most advanced medical diagnostic imaging available, including a Fuji Synapse PACS (6years old). Services include: bone density, CT scan, interventional radiology, MRI, Mobile PET/CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and X-ray. The department also supports Stamford Hospital's Women's Breast Center, which offers advanced radiation treatment as a key component of its multidisciplinary approach to delivering clinically excellent and compassionate cancer care. Radiology services are offered at the Darien Imaging Center and The Tully Health Center/ Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe Diagnostic Imaging Center.</p><p>In the Operating Room recently installed is a Siemens Zeego Hybrid OR. It also offers state-of-the-art care in its Toshiba CT Scanner 64 Slice and Digital mammography as well as 3D (Tomosyntheis) Breast Imaging. Interventional radiology procedures performed at Stamford include: endovascular procedures like angioplasty and stent placement; GI/biliary interventions, including feeding tube placements; GU procedures, such as to clear kidney obstructions; myelography; vascular access for long-term IV therapy; embolization; vertebroplasty to treat compression spine fractures; and oncological services, including biopsy, chemoembolization, and radio frequency embolization of tumors. In addition to offering superior radiology services, Stamford Hospital offers superior radiography education, with a two-year program that combines classroom education with clinical experience. The radiology department has a 1.5% turnover rate and 2.5% vacancy rate attributed to new positions.</p><p><strong>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p><p>Under direction of the Executive Vice President &amp; Chief Operating Officer, Clinical Services, Cardiovascular Care Center &amp; Imaging and in close collaboration with the Radiology Chairperson, provide operational and strategic leadership to Imaging Services across the Stamford Health System. In collaboration with physician leadership, is accountable for development, implementation and oversight of quality improvement plans with a focus on operational and service excellence. Will have direct administrative responsibility for total operating budget of $14 million and over 150 FTE&#8217;s and is supported by Directors and Managers at each site. Provide executive oversight to those managing the routine day to day operations of the respective Radiology Imaging Departments, including knowledge of key operations. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory and legal parameters. Serve as a role model for standards of behavior and performance.</p><p>Additionally, the executive director should embody the ideals of the health system, with a passion for quality and emphasis on providing the highest level of customer service possible. The executive director will be a visionary, serving as a subject matter expert working with senior leadership to leverage the strength and resources the department, not only within the hospital, but among the various growing outpatient environments to ensure an efficient, high quality, patient focused experience.</p><p>Major responsibilities include:</p><ul><li>In collaboration with Physician and clinical leadership, develop, implement and oversee quality improvement plans with a focus on operational and service excellence. Assess, develop and direct implementation of plans consistent with Stamford Health organizational goals and strategic plan.</li><li>Promote a professional environment in which patient care is delivered. Develop, implement, and oversee plans to improve departmental quality metrics. Generate strategy and tactics to achieve departmental objectives and communicate the same through all levels of the organization. Set expectations with all Radiology Imaging Department staff to ensure that the patient and family experience will be exceptional. Collaborate with service line leaders, nursing staff at all levels, multidisciplinary teams, executive officers and other stakeholders as appropriate. Keep current with Radiology industry standards, innovations and trends. Support research and evidence based practice in the delivery of patient care and radiology administration. Bring forward proposals for initiatives as appropriate.</li><li>Forecast, prepare and monitor operating and capital budgets for system Radiology Imaging Services. Assure that budgets are developed in accordance with recognized clinical standards and financial benchmarks. Formulate and approve short and long term goals and objectives, plans and budgets including but not limited to: developing and securing approval of fiscal year budgets and goals, monitoring progress to goals, objectives, and budgets and making necessary adjustments to address variances. Keep current with revenue trends and identify opportunities to improve radiology revenue capture and/or reduce expenses.</li><li>Provide executive oversight to those managing the routine day to day operations of the respective Radiology Imaging Departments. Maintain knowledge of key operations. Provide leadership development and mentorship to site and modality based leadership. Set clear expectations relative to leadership actions and follow through when standards are not met using corrective action as needed.</li><li>Facilitate an integrated quality improvement process that promotes accountability for outcomes and facilitates collaboration and change. Employ LEAN Six Sigma and other quality improvement principles to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of care and services provided that links patients, physicians and customer satisfaction results with the quality improvement process, ensuring effective processes and patient flow. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, reporting and accreditation through continuous readiness initiatives, assuring site leaders respond accordingly. Analyze data and provide suggestions for plan improvement.</li><li>Work in collaboration with respective physician site leaders and staff to create and ensure positive and collegial working relationships consistent with organizational culture. Provide system-wide leadership establishing positive working relationships with medical and administrative leadership across all hospital departments. Develop opportunities for team building and cohesiveness among Stamford Health sire leaders and physician colleagues. Foster a productive work environment by encouraging collaborative teamwork, and clear and open communications.</li><li>Responsible for direction, supervision and coordination of all assigned personnel and activities for system-wide Radiology Imaging Services. Serve as a role model and exemplify behavior that is consistent with organizational culture. Ensure that direct reports operationalize culture specific growth opportunities and promulgate expectations and behavior. Move Radiology Imaging Services Departments toward expected outcomes for each element: quality and caring, openness and trust, and adaptability. Act as a catalyst for change within the system by fostering an environment conducive and receptive to change, by facilitating development of new services and programs, and by supporting staff and leadership through transitions. Support the mission of the system through professional efforts in carrying out all responsibilities.</li><li>Contribute to organizational leadership and governance by effectively representing Radiology Imaging Services throughout the system, and rendering professional and functional expertise to senior leadership. Work collaboratively with department leaders at each site as appropriate, recognizing linkages between departments and impact across Stamford Health System. Seek opportunities to develop organization wide decisions that serve the greater good. Be a true team member by sharing information openly, and respecting the opinions of others. Support care center decisions by communicating information and identifying any complicating factors.</li></ul><p><strong>SKILLS &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:</strong></p><p>A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible management experience of a hospital-based radiology department with a large outreach program is required. Hospital work must include significant hands-on experience with all applicable regulatory agencies (TJC, ACR, MQSA, DPH), as well as fiscal, personnel, project management and new business development.</p><p>Additional qualifications sought:</p><ul><li>A collaborative leadership style and the ability to work with individuals at all levels within the organization, particularly peers and leaders across other departments.</li><li>Proven ability to direct and respond to change; analyze and create data sources and recommend appropriate action required.</li><li>A proven track record of success and a reputation for innovation.</li><li>Experience with performance improvement programs and initiatives.</li><li>Strong leadership, development and communication skills (both written and oral) demonstrated both within and outside of the organization.</li><li>Strong knowledge and industry expertise, including being well versed on industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.</li><li>The ability to function as a servant leader, ensuring that the department provides a high level of quality customer service.</li><li>Strong operations background, including being well versed in budgeting, business planning, and project management.</li><li>Ability to function effectively as a constructive and respected team member at the governance level of the system.</li><li>The ability to interact and work well with physicians.</li></ul><p><strong>OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES:</strong></p><p>The new executive director of radiology will face many opportunities and challenges. Some of these include:</p><ul><li>It is an exciting time at Stamford Hospital. With a positive operating margin, recent inpatient satisfaction scores at some of their highest levels, programmatic growth underway, and plans for a new replacement facility, the organization is well positioned for the future.</li><li>Stamford Hospital recently signed a lease with Chelsea Piers (www.chelseapiersct.com) for 18,500 square feet to expand the Orthopedic Institute, Physical Therapy, Lab, Imaging and other related services at the complex. This new location is the department of radiology&#8217;s third outpatient location and provides 2 Digital x-ray rooms.</li><li>This individual will be replacing a well-liked and respected director, and will have the opportunity and challenge to make his/her own mark and to position the department for future success.</li><li>The new executive director will inherit a technologically advanced and well run department that includes inpatient and outpatient at the main hospital, as well as outpatient imaging at The Tully Health Center, Darien Imaging Center, and Chelsea Piers which opened April 1, 2013.</li><li>Stamford Hospital has had a longstanding two-year radiography program; that program is currently being re-evaluated and may be restructured in the near future.</li><li>Instability among the radiology group has been an ongoing concern, but senior leadership has been working to correct that challenge. A new Radiology Group ARIS was slected and started Jan 1, 2013</li><li>The new executive director will inherit an experienced management team and have the opportunity to continue to mentor and develop that group. There are currently no vacancies or significant deficiencies in key leadership positions within the department.</li><li>As the healthcare industry continues to evolve, the new executive director will have the opportunity to serve as a partner with senior leadership, bringing a higher level of innovation and ensuring radiology services meet the strategic demands and objectives of the organization.</li><li>The new executive director will have the opportunity to further develop and foster strong working relationships with other departments within the hospital.</li></ul><p><strong>EDUCATION:</strong></p><p>A master&#8217;s degree is highly preferred and will be seen favorably.
